Hello everyone!
Happy end of the school year! We hope you enjoy a well-deserved couple of weeks off! We have loved the past few weeks of spring practices with this team. These athletes work very hard and create a great atmosphere every practice.
Here are some of the things we’ve been working on:
Jumps
Every practice, we do a series of drills all geared toward strength and flexibility for improving jumps. Even after a few weeks these girls are jumping higher, improving their mobility, and strengthening their body positions. We will continue working our jumps through the entire year.
Cheers
Some of you may be learning cheers with us as your athletes have been preparing for our "Cheer Checks" each week. We have been impressed with their ability to learn quickly and pass off their cheers under pressure. We will continue working on and checking off cheers all summer long to make sure we are prepared for football season in August!
Stunting
High school cheer is unique because our team is composed of athletes from several different cheer/athletic backgrounds. These last few weeks, the girls have been mixed around into different stunt groups as we are unifying our stunting technique and introducing elite skills. These can be difficult weeks as changing even one member of the group can feel like starting over, but each group has been so beneficial for these girls to learn to stunt with anyone and adapt to a unified way of stunting! We’ve already hit some amazing skills, thrown by groups who have worked together for just a day or two.
Tumbling
Something important to our team is accountability for our skills. It is not unusual, when under pressure, to struggle with skills that were once easy for the athlete. This is why we have weekly tumbling checks, to help our team maintain and improve on their skills. We want them to feel confident, whether it's on the sideline or competition floor. We were immensely proud when every athlete passed their first and second tumbling check with every skill they tried out with!
Conditioning
Conditioning may not be the favorite part of practice, but it is paying off early! Running the mile every practice is important for improving endurance. Endurance is needed not only for a competition routine, but also to cheer for the duration of a football game that sometimes goes late into the evening. These girls have been pushing their mile times, and every girl has made our goal time the last two practices! We ask all parents to please help these girls to keep pushing for our next goal, which is 9:00 starting the first week of summer.
Those that have been coming to weight lifting consistently have also made quick improvement! Their form is improving, their reps are getting quicker, and they are starting to be able to add weight to their reps. We will weight lift as a team every Tuesday and Thursday in the summer, it makes a big difference especially going into the school year and competition season.
Once, again, these girls have worked so hard and are making quick progress. Over this break, we’ve told them to stay in shape but also get lots of rest! When we come back it’s a lot of hard work and preparation to set us up for football season, cheer camp, and our competition teams. Thank you all for your support, we appreciate all you do!
